The gastroenterology department at GTTH comprises of a team of experts headed by Prof Dr shamail Zafar, the department is dedicated to the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of wide range of Gastrointestinal and liver disorders. Our team provides comprehensive, evidence based care supported by modern diagnosis and therapeutic facilities. Each patient receives individualized attention at receiving the best possible outcome through effective management plans. Some of the common conditions encountered and treated include, Inflammatory bowel disease, Irritable bowel syndrome, Esophageal motility disorders, Upper GI bleed, and Decompensated Chronic liver disease.

METABOLIC DYSFUNCTION SERVICES :
Liver acts as a CenterPoint to all the metabolic and inflammatory dysfunction. Metabolites from the “Fatty Liver” spread all over the body affecting the Heart, Kidneys and Pancreas. We here in the Gastroenterology Department provide medical and dietary advice to all those having metabolic dysfunction and reducing their metabolic burden. We work in close collaboration with the Cardiology Department, Nephrology Department and Psychiatry Department to achieve the goal.
BARIATRIC SERVICES:
Obesity is a serious chronic disease linked to health complications and reduced life expectancy. Approximately 1 out of 4 persons are classified as obese in Pakistan making a prevalence of 26%. We here at Ghurki Hospital, Department of Gastroenterology are providing services of “INTRAGASTRIC BALOON PLACEMENT”,a well-tolerated Bariatric procedure for weight loss of 10-15% of body weight in a time period of six months. This procedure also is a bridge therapy before bariatric surgery.
